Crews are finishing up some of the last remaining construction work on Baton Rouge’s newly-expanded South Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The plant’s expansion has cost upwards of $250 million in total, and is the largest capital improvement project in city-parish history. And it’s the biggest piece of the even bigger $1.3 billion overhaul of the parish’s sewer system.
The city-parish offered a tour of the facility Tuesday, as part of a conference being held in New Orleans by the Water Environment Federation.
While the plant has continued operating during construction, its new bells and whistles are expected to be operational by December. The renovations are expanding the plant’s capacity from 120 million gallons daily to 205 million gallons daily.
